Overview
This module applies fundamental concepts from the field of assessment, including validity, reliability, fairness and standard setting, to the design and delivery of surgical assessments. It considers the pertinent stages of assessment design, such as the construction of items and the development of blueprints, to enable the learner to evaluate the quality and adequateness of the surgical assessments in which he/she is involved.
The different types of assessment that comprise the multi-faceted evaluation of a surgeon’s competence will be discussed, encouraging the learner to appraise their impact on teaching and learning. These assessments include single best answer (SBA) examinations, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and vivas in the context of the MRCS and FRCS examinations, workplace-based assessments (WBAs), and performance-based assessments (PBAs).
The learner can access this static module, which is offered within the Doctors Academy Virtual Online Platform (VOP), at the time and in the place that best suit him/her. Access to the module is unlimited, and it is granted for 12 months.
A certificate will be provided upon successful completion of the module.
